Overview:
The Shift Supervisor plays a key leadership role on the store floor, supporting the General Manager by ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and leading the team through opening, mid-day, and closing shifts. This role blends hands-on customer service with team supervision, operational execution, and high standards of cleanliness, safety, and product presentation.
Core Responsibilities:
- Act as the lead on duty during assigned shifts — delegate tasks, support team members, and ensure all areas are staffed and functioning smoothly
- Supervise and participate in fish counter, kitchen, sushi, grab-and-go, and register operations as needed
- Deliver exceptional customer service and lead by example in engaging customers with warmth, expertise, and urgency
- Oversee daily inventory receiving, prep list execution, and merchandising setup to Fjord standards
- Enforce all food safety, sanitation, and health code standards throughout the store
- Ensure proper shift documentation including temperature logs, opening/closing checklists, waste logs, and labor notes
- Support and train Fish Counter Associates and new team members on SOPs and Fjord standards
- Communicate clearly with General Manager and department leads about product issues, staffing needs, and customer feedback
- Assist in resolving customer issues professionally and promptly
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Minimum 1 year experience in food retail, grocery, seafood, or restaurant environments
- Proven ability to lead by example and motivate a team
- Strong working knowledge of food handling and sanitation standards
- Organized and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment
- Able to lift 50 lbs and work in cold environments
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays
- Food Handler’s Certification (or willingness to obtain) required

- Maintains a well-run, on-time, and clean shift from open to close
- Effectively communicates daily priorities and upholds accountability among team members
- Demonstrates good judgment in resolving issues or escalating to GM as appropriate
- Reinforces Fjord’s commitment to sourcing transparency, sustainability, and product education
- Supports new initiatives and pilots (e.g., catering prep, new product launches) with enthusiasm and attention to detail
